“NEAR STAR” Advisory Committee Welcomes New Members
PORT ARTHUR, TEXAS, Aug. 1, 2001 - Ms. Betty Keith and Mr. Keith Casey were introduced as new members at the July 31st meeting of the Neighborhood Environmental Advisory Resource (NEAR) Committee for Motiva Enterprises LLC (NEAR STAR) for the Port Arthur Refinery.

Headquartered in Houston, Motiva Enterprises LLC is a joint venture between Shell Oil Company, Texaco and Saudi Aramco.  Motiva refines and markets Texaco- and Shell-branded products in 26 East and Gulf Coast states and Washington, D.C.

The purpose of the NEAR STAR Committee is to provide a forum for neighborhoods and community interaction with Motiva Enterprises concerning the refinery’s environmental and safety programs.  The Committee acts in an advisory and consultative capacity to help ensure that Port Arthur Refinery’s environmental and safety programs meet or exceed practical standards that would be expected of a good neighbor.  The Committee, which was formed in 1992, functions as an information conduit between Motiva and the community to ensure that communication between the Port Arthur Refinery and the community continues to improve.  It is necessary that community interests and concerns are considered and, that on-going evaluation of the environmental and safety programs is evaluated.  Motiva employees want to continue to promote stewardship in the facility and the community in the Port Arthur area.

Betty Keith is the Executive Assistant with the Greater Port Arthur Chamber of Commerce.  She has been with the chamber since May of 1995.  She has been involved in numerous civic and social functions throughout the area – both as a volunteer and as a representative of the chamber.

Betty is a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School and earned an Associate Degree from Lamar State College.  She is a native of Port Arthur, with her mother and father being retirees from Motiva (formerly Texaco).  Ms. Keith is the proud mother of two sons and five grandchildren.

Mr. Keith Casey is the new Assistant Refinery Manager of Operations.  Keith joined Motiva Port Arthur Refinery June 1st with his last assignment in the position of Manager of Reliability & Maintenance at Equilon’s Los Angeles Refining Company.

Keith is a graduate of California Polytechnic State University with a Bachelors Degree in Metallurgical & Materials Engineering.  Mr. Casey is married and the proud father of three children.

Sue Parsley, Coordinator of Community Relations, commented, “Motiva is extremely appreciative of Betty Keith and Keith Casey agreeing to give of their time to serve on the NEAR STAR Committee.  Both individuals will have the opportunity to share concerns/interests of the communities with the committee.  Under the leadership of Tom Purves, Refinery Manager, NEAR STAR has a strong committee consisting of:  Jayne Smith, Claudine Patteson, Chief Clifford Barbay, Jenny Kerr, Lawrence Pierre, Irene McCall, Mike Miller, Ernestine Wade, Phyllis Charles, Bill Worsham, Bobby Feemster, Fernando Ramirez and Bill Wimberley.  The open dialogue has presented an opportunity for the committee members to learn more about our industry - our challenges/opportunities, along with our successes!”
